Chaco launched a fund for cotton producers: "Cotton is key to the provincial economy."
The Chaco government announced that a disbursement of more than 415 million pesos for cotton producers will be made in the coming days. This is the second phase of financial assistance for the sector, which was determined after a verification process of planted hectares. According to the Undersecretary of Agriculture, only those who have met the administrative and technical requirements established in the program will be eligible.
In a conversation with Radio Nordeste, the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Julio Fantín, explained that the verification was carried out by representatives from the Ministry of Production throughout the province. "Throughout the month of January, we monitored who planted, and with the results in hand, we will transfer five liters of diesel per hectare to the producers who had already received the first transfer last year," the official stated.
The assistance program, which reached nearly 900 producers in its first phase, is financed with provincial funds. The Ministry of Production emphasized that this investment seeks to strengthen the regional economy and support farmers during a difficult time. "Cotton is not only a social tool, but also a key one for the provincial economy," Fantín emphasized.
While the majority of beneficiaries will receive the aid, the official warned that some producers could be excluded. "The verification we are conducting with Banco del Chaco and the Agency Directorate of the Ministry of Production may determine that there are fewer beneficiaries than in the first phase," he noted. He explained that, in some cases, producers did not plant or did not use the funds for their intended purpose.
"Those who received resources and did not allocate them to planting will not be eligible for credit in future campaigns," Fantín stated emphatically. The measure seeks to ensure that the financial support is used effectively and truly benefits those who continue to invest in cotton production in the province.
The sector has faced adverse weather conditions in recent weeks, with high temperatures and limited rainfall in some areas. "There is great concern because the temperature is causing more damage than the lack of water," commented the Undersecretary. In this context, the funds are intended to provide relief to producers who have maintained their production despite the difficulties.
Regarding the overall impact of the program, Fantín noted that Chaco has more than 270,000 hectares of cotton planted. "It is a fundamental sector for the province, and this is a lifeline for the activity," he stated. The government hopes that this second phase of assistance will help maintain the sector's dynamism.
With payments being processed, producers will receive the funds in their accounts through Banco del Chaco in the coming days. Meanwhile, provincial authorities continue to monitor the weather situation and evaluate new measures to support farmers during the 2024/2025 cotton campaign.
